Tan Preparation & Aftercare

It is important that you prepare your skin for the spray tan, this will ensure the best even application and will help the tan to fade off evenly rather than streaking. Before your tanning session you should:

  • Shower to remove any oils from your skin, do not use any oily products at this time – water is best!
  • Exfoliate as much as possible leading up to the day of your tan
  • Don’t worry about exfoliating scrubs just before your tan, these can be oily and create a barrier; Exfoliating gloves, body puffs or a good scrub with a flannel is best
  • Wax/shave more than 24 hours before your tan appointment
  • Avoid heavy moisturising shower gels, for example Dove & Imperial Leather (low cost supermarkets own brand are usually the best ones to use)
  • DO NOT apply moisturisers, deodorants, make up, perfume or oil based products to your skin on the day of your treatment. If you need to wear deodorant please only apply in the morning, not just before your tanning session
  • Have loose dark clothing & open shoes e.g. flip flops if you need to go outside afterwards

The Tanning Session

  • Please be ready for when I arrive at the start of your appointment
  • Wear suitable swimwear or underwear, if any, to create desired result
  • Underwear should be black as the tan will not wash out of white elastic/lace
  • I will supply you with a barrier cream to apply to your hands, feet and any particularly dry areas
  • You will be able to dress straight after

  • Leave the solution to develop for at least 6-8 hours unless advised otherwise
  • Avoid water on the skin whilst tan develops, especially rain
  • Try not to touch your skin whilst your tan is developing to avoid tanned fingers & palms
  • Avoid heavy exercise or any perspiration during development
  • Rinse all solution off with water before washing your hair or using any shower products. Make sure you get all the solution off to avoid looking streaky
  • Pat dry with a towel, do not rub
  • Moisturise your body regularly afterwards to maximise duration of tan
  • When shaving, use a new razor each time not one with a blunt blade

Products which may shorten the longevity of your tan

  • Dove shower gel or soap
  • Bar soaps
  • Anti-ageing products
  • Exfoliants
  • Toners containing witch hazel or alcohol
  • Anti-acne products containing exfoliants
